In Racing. For Racing. We’re Racing Digital
The British Horseracing Authority: Supporting the industry through Governance, Integrity and Welfare
The British Horseracing Authority serves as the governing and regulatory body for horseracing in Great Britain. Formed in 2007, the BHA leads all aspects of the sport’s governance, including race planning, licensing, integrity services, rules enforcement, medical standards, racecourse regulation and welfare oversight. Its mission is to provide compelling racing while upholding the highest standards of fairness, equine welfare and participant wellbeing.
The BHA ensures racing remains both competitive and safe, producing fixtures and race programmes that work for participants while fostering the sport’s growth. It sets and enforces welfare standards from foal registration through training, racing and retirement, ensuring horses receive exceptional care throughout their lives. Acting as a unifying force, the BHA provides leadership that respects the rich traditions of the Turf while guiding the sport confidently into the future for racegoers, participants and stakeholders alike.
